But he can't remain above the fray for long, as each faction seeks the truth from Luke regarding his murdered brother's final project. A neural-interface technology that will forever shift the fragile balance of the ashen plains.
With the true believers, desert nomads, survivalists and existing regime closing in, Luke must delve deeper into his genius brother's secrets. And the truth about his last project will dramatically alter the remnants of civilization.

Ashes of the Fall The Remnants Trilogy Book 1 eBook Nicholas Erik Reviews
Everyone is struggling for control & you don't know who to believe as their all lying about something, each group trying to take control, destroying what's left of a destroyed world with crazy leaders fighting among themselves & guess who is caught in the middle?
As is usual with young Master Erik, this one is again well written, fast paced, action packed and, at times, funny.
Although I have a hard time sympathizing with the "hero" (which might just be intended), I am looking forward to reading part two (which certainly is intended)
Reminiscent of the Chris Carter series “Dark Angel”, the aforementioned “Mad Max” and other genre works, the dogged determination of the main protagonist to simply survive is paramount.
Virtual reality also figures in, at least peripherally, in this installment.
A pretty good story line that comes together more and more. A few open ends that are not well explained but can be filled in by the imagination. The storyline tells a tale of post apocalyptic survival and politics with some imangitive twists along the way. Not a bad begining to a series.
Very intertaining with lots of action and plot twists. The characters are more well-rounded than in most "after the fall" type novels. I ook forward to the next installment in the series.
This book started out very well but after about a third it just lost the thread and almost turned into a different book. I continued to read and was surprised that the end of the book left me hanging so that if I was interested in finding out how the story continues I am forced to continue with the series. I have read a fair number of the first book in a series and even though there were other books following this first book finished.the story enough that I felt that I had read a complete stoy.the reader could stop there or continue with the series. They were left hanging. Since I thought the book started wandering I will not continue reading the series. If the first book had a complete story which gave the reader a reason to continue reading, I might ave been interested in finishing the others. The problem for me is being forced to continue when a complete story in the first book would make me want to read book two.
Luke is our "hero" here and is completely unrelatable and flimsy. He stands for nothing, has no backbone, and little personality. The whole book he is running in circles; supposed considering four conflicting angles of view, though only three are really dealt with; and dealing with numerous shallow characters. The book is filled with futuristic technical babble, many action scenes, self depreciation, and a few wise cracks.
The story itself is unbelieveable. All these warring factions apparently allow him to live, capture, escape, be recaptured, escape again... thinking they have enough to hold him. He is only out for himself and says as much many times. He doesn't care what happens to everyone else and only at the end manages to depict some questionable emotions.
These four factions desire control of the futuristic program that accesses and controls all humanity. This "hero" cannot even find it in himself to want to destroy that concept though he does recognize it.
Among the sides of this building fued, he has little to choose from. The author gives no moral highground. Nothing worth fighting for EXCEPT his own life. Very early on his father figure is even degraded to a selfish b**tard who is only using Luke to accomplish his own agenda.
This book displays little hope or morality in men. It's depressing and hard to complete. The only plus I see is that the author does write some pretty good action sequences. I highly recommend you do not waste your time.
